• “Not to be discounted and what truly sets us apart from other cities is the 14,000 acres of park land in the Denver mountain parks system,” said Denver parks and recreation spokesman Jeff Green. “It is something that is available to people in Denver that Chicago doesn’t have. That said, we still want to improve our overall parks score.”

March 2013: Westword recognizes “Best of” Mountain Parks

• Westword magazine named Summit Lake Park the Best Denver Mountain Park.
• The entire Denver Mountain Park system has been designated Westword’s Best Outdoorsy Gift from the Past, in recognition of its 100 year history.
